Manchester United 2-1 Chelsea, Player Ratings: A new individual low

It was mostly levels of bad in this one, for all involved — more on that a bit later — but Reece James did flash some of his old delights as he was allowed to roam upfield for once, and swing in a few delicious crosses in the second half. They probably deserved an assist or two. Would love to see this happen more often. Such a dangerous weapon to have, yet willingly not deploy.

Another goal for Trev, who remains the most consistent and steady of our available options at center back. There’s been a lot of talk about Premier League-winning quality this week. Chalobah’s good enough, in my book, to be part of such a team.

Credit to JP for pushing through this stretch and continuing to work hard.

Last, and certainly least, a note about Robert Sánchez, who has finally achieved the impossible: he’s broken Tiémoué Bakayoko’s long-standing individual ratings record low! Sánchez flirted with this achievement last season already (1.9 against Manchester City), but with his 1.1 in this game, Baka’s 1.4 for a most disastrous 30 minutes against Watford in early 2018 is now no longer the worst individual rating in WAGNH Community Player Ratings history.

Considering that Sánchez almost broke the club record for the quickest red card received — it’s the quickest for us in a Premier League match — it’s entirely fitting that he would set this new record for futility. I’m actually surprised that he got a few votes higher than 1; like, for what? He had one decision to make in the game and he got it massively wrong.

Anyway, congrats, Bob! Well earned. (Sánchez could be back next weekend as his one-match suspension will get served in the League Cup midweek.)
