    KARACHI:

A Sufi-inspired theatrical production exploring love, spirituality and artistic expression has emerged as a major attraction at the ongoing Awami Theatre Festival 2026 at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.

Titled Mujh Mein Tou Maujood, the play written by Anwar Jafri and directed by renowned dancer and theatre practitioner Sheema Kermani, blends storytelling, live music and dance to present a narrative rooted in Sufi philosophy and the idea of divine love.

The production draws inspiration from the teachings and poetry of South Asia’s revered spiritual figures, including Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Kabir Das and Bhagat Qamar Ram, weaving their messages of tolerance, humanity and inner awakening into a contemporary theatrical form.

Set against a backdrop of music and choreographed movement, the play tells the story of individuals who devote themselves to the pursuit of truth and spiritual fulfilment. It portrays how such seekers are often misunderstood by society, facing resistance and isolation, yet remain inwardly content through their connection with love and faith.

The performance adopts a traditional storytelling style, accompanied by live musical arrangements that serve as a central element of the production. Dance is integrated throughout the narrative, making the play a fully choreographed experience in which movement, sound and storytelling function together to create a unified dramatic expression.

Play seeks to raise broader questions about the role of love, tolerance and compassion in contemporary society, encouraging audiences to reflect on how positive social change can be achieved through empathy and human connection.
